The internet is a worldwide network of billions of electronics and computers. Not one person created the internet, but rather a group of scientists and other people over time. This goes back to the 1950-1960s around the peak of the Cold War. The US needed a communications system and the computers at the time were too big, expensive, and were limited in numbers. At the time the internet was used for defense communication during the war. Now it is primarily used for communication, entertainment, and information/research.
The world wide web is a system of interconnected public webpages that you can access via the internet. Tim Berners-Lee created the www in 1989. The www was originally created to bring together the technologies of computers, data networks, and hypertexts into a more powerful and easier to use global information system. It was mainly for scientists and academics to share information. Today we use it everyday to shop, for entertainment, communication, social networking, etc.
The internet and the www are different things. The www needs the network the internet runs on, in order to work. So these two things work together. The internet used different IP addresses to allow the technology to connect. The www on the other hand URL and HTTPS to locate different/various web pages.
The first website was created on August 6, 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee. You can find it here: http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html.
A URL is the address of a web page, standing for Uniform Resource Locator. HTTPS is the security protocol used to transfer data over the internet. This stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. These work together because the HTTPS makes sure the data being transmitted into the URL is secure and safe for the electronic.
Hedy Lamarr co-invented the basis of the technology or frequency later used to create Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. Although Hedy Lamarr was in fact an actress from Vienna. There is a song about Hedy Lamarr, called This is a Song for Miss Lamarr. This song was written and performed by Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp.
Jaap Haartsen invented Bluetooth in 1994. But, Jim Kardach an engineer named it. Bluetooth was supposed to be a placeholder name until they found a real name. They tried to find a different name but didn't have time to complete the trademark for it, so they were stuck with Bluetooth. The Bluetooth logo is a bind rune merging the Younger Futhark runes (Hagall) (ᚼ) and (Bjarkan) (ᛒ), Harald’s initials. He was a king who united Norway and Denmark.
The creation of Wi-Fi was a team effort, Hedy Lamarr created the fundamental "frequency hopping" technology used to create it. A research fellow named Vic Hayes worked on defining a set of wireless networking standards known as IEEE 802.11 or Wi-Fi in the early 2000s. It was named Wi-Fi short for Wireless Fidelity, in 1999. It was originally going to be Hi-Fi which was a catchy abbreviation for high fidelity. But they thought Wi-Fi was fun and definitely user friendly.
Marian Croak invented VoIP. This stands for voice over internet protocols. It is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broader internet line rather than a traditional analogue phone line. Without this technology or invention, FaceTime, Zoom, and WhatsApp would not exist.
